Human Protein disulfide-isomerase protein

What is Human Protein disulfide-isomerase protein and its biological function

Human protein disulfide-isomerase (PDI) is a protein that is involved in the folding and maturation of other proteins. It is a member of the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family of proteins, which are known to play a role in the folding and maturation of other proteins. PDI is composed of a catalytic domain that is responsible for its enzymatic activity and several other domains that are involved in its function.

PDI plays a key role in the folding and maturation of other proteins by catalyzing the formation and rearrangement of disulfide bonds in proteins. It does this by acting as an oxidoreductase enzyme, which means that it can transfer electrons between proteins. PDI has been found to be involved in a number of biological processes, including the folding and maturation of proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum, the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses, and the development of cancer.

There have been a number of recent research studies focused on PDI and its role in disease development. For example, a study published in the journal Nature Communications in 2021 found that targeting PDI with small molecule inhibitors was effective in reducing the growth and proliferation of cancer cells in preclinical models of leukemia. Another study published in the journal Cell Reports in 2020 found that targeting PDI with small molecule inhibitors was effective in reducing inflammation and tissue damage in preclinical models of autoimmune disease.
