Human Apoptosis regulator Bcl-2(BCL2)

Human apoptosis regulator Bcl-2 (BCL2) is a protein that is involved in the regulation of programmed cell death, or apoptosis. It is a member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins, which are known to play a role in the regulation of apoptosis. BCL2 is composed of four conserved domains, including the BH1, BH2, BH3, and BH4 domains, which are involved in the protein's function.

BCL2 plays a critical role in the regulation of apoptosis by inhibiting the activation of pro-apoptotic proteins, such as BAX and BAK. This helps to prevent cells from undergoing programmed cell death. However, when BCL2 is overexpressed, it can lead to the suppression of apoptosis and the development of cancer. In particular, BCL2 has been found to be overexpressed in certain types of cancer, including lymphoma and leukemia.

There have been a number of recent research studies focused on BCL2 and its role in disease development. For example, a study published in the journal Nature in 2021 found that targeting BCL2 with small molecule inhibitors was effective in inducing apoptosis in cancer cells in preclinical models of lymphoma. Another study published in the journal Cancer Cell in 2020 found that targeting BCL2 with small molecule inhibitors was effective in reducing the growth and proliferation of cancer cells in preclinical models of leukemia.
